The VA can sometimes help veterans, service members and dependents with burial expenses.
An eligible person may be buried in a state or national cemetery with no cost for the plot, burial, or headstone.
If a veteran is buried in a private cemetery, eligible people may apply for a burial benefit to help offset the cost.
You can find more information at: https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/

The VA will provide a headstone, medallion, or marker for the grave of any eligible veteran upon request. Your funeral home may help you with that request, and it may also be done in this office. For more information about this benefit, please click here.
A Presidential Memorial Certificate is an engraved paper certificate that is signed by the current president to honor your veteran's military service. These may be requested along with burial benefits or separately. If the veteran is buried in a national cemetery, this is automatically presented to the next of kin at the time of burial.
